The large landscape of supernova, GRB, and cocoon interactions

چکیده

Long gamma ray bursts (LGRBs) are associated to the collapse of a massive star and formation relativistic jet. As jet propagates through star, it forms an extended, hot cocoon. The dynamical evolution jet/cocoon system its interaction with environment has been studied extensively both analytically numerically. On other hand, role played by supernova (SN) explosion LGRBs in determining outcome barely considered. In this paper, we discuss large landscape outcomes resulting from SN, We show that depends mainly on three timescales: times for cocoon shock wave break surface progenitor time needed engulf completely star. delay between launch SN moving can be related these timescales. Depending ordering scales, jet-cocoon might propagate inside ejecta or way around, properties would different. imprint complex emergent thermal non-thermal radiation.

The GRB-Supernova Connection

Long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are believed to be produced by the core collapse of massive stars and hence to be connected with supernovae (SNe). Indeed, for four pairs of GRBs and SNe, spectroscopically confirmed connection has been firmly established. For more than a dozen of GRBs the SN signature (the ‘red bump’) has been detected in the afterglow lightcurves. Based on the four pairs ...

Supernova and GRB connection: Observations and Questions

We review the observational status of the supernova/gamma-ray burst connection. Present data suggest that SNe associated with GRBs form a heterogeneous class of objects including both bright and faint hypernovae and perhaps also ‘standard’ Ib/c events. Evidence for association with other types of core-collapse SNe (e.g. IIn) is much weaker. After combining the local GRB rate with the local SN-I...

The supernova associated with GRB 020405

We used the very simple and successful Cannonball (CB) model of gamma ray bursts (GRBs) and their afterglows (AGs) to analyze the observations of the mildly extinct optical AG of the relatively nearby GRB 020405, first made with ground-based telescopes, and with the HST at later times. We show that GRB 020405 was associated with a 1998bw-like supernova (SN) at the GRB’s redshift which appeared ...

Magnetar-energized supernova explosions and GRB-jets

In this paper we report on the early evolution of a core-collapse supernova explosion following the birth of a magnetar with the dipolar magnetic field of B = 10G and the rotational period of 2ms, which was studied by means of axisymmetric general relativistic MHD simulations. In this study we use realistic EOS and take into account the cooling and heating associated with emission, absorption, ...

The Jet and the Supernova in Grb 990712

The optical light curve of the afterglow following the gamma-ray burst GRB 990712 is reexamined. Recently published polarization measurements of that source require a collimated outflow geometry that in turn predicts a break in the light curve. We show that the V-band light curve is consistent with such a break and that the post-break light curve evolution is dominated by a supernova contributi...
